Rotary Club of East York honours Deacon Sal Badali with new gift to Providence Healthcare

The Rotary Club of East York has made a generous donation to Providence Healthcare Foundation in memory of Deacon Salvatore “Sal” Badali, one of the Club’s longest-serving members, who passed away on December 23, 2025, at age 93.

The memorial gift recognizes Deacon Badali’s decades of profound commitment to both the Rotary Club of East York and to Providence Healthcare, as well as his impact on the Toronto community.

Deacon Badali’s connection to Providence Healthcare ran deep and spanned over 35 years. As a Roman Catholic deacon ordained in 1994, he brought his ministry to patients and staff, providing solace and comfort to countless patients and their loved ones. He served on the Hospital’s board and volunteered for many years, embodying Providence’s mission of compassionate care. And his generosity as a donor enabled the Hospital to improve patient care, helping us reclaim lives, restore strength, and inspire hope.

“At Rotary, Sal was our longest-serving member—decades upon decades,” says Club member Tony Rumolo. “He came to every meeting. Whatever any of us had to do, he was with us doing it. Even as health issues emerged in his later years, his commitment never wavered.”

Deacon Badali’s devotion extended far beyond Rotary and Providence. His successful career in automotive services provided the foundation for a life dedicated to helping others.

The breadth of his impact became clear at his funeral service at St. Bonaventure’s Parish on December 31, where his family, friends, and hundreds of other community members gathered to pay their respects.

“I’ve been to a lot of funerals, and I’ve never seen that many people attend,” Rumolo says. “It was love, respect, and remembrance. He touched all our hearts.”

Through the Rotary Club’s gift, Deacon Badali’s legacy of service at Providence Healthcare will endure.

“We wanted his name to be remembered,” says Rumolo. “This felt like the right way to honour him.”
